Macadamia Nut

Macadamia tetraphylla, from which cultivars are mostly derived, is a medium sized tree to 20m. Dark green leaves in whorls of 3 or 4, oblong, to 20cm, sharply toothed. Purplish pink flowers in pendulous sprays to 20cm occur in spring. Edible nut matures March to July. Distribution: Qld, NSW.
Propagation: From seed. Commercial plants obtained by grafting to maintain maximum fruiting quality and quantity.
Cultivation: Handsome ornamental tree as well as bearing delicious nuts. Fruits at least as far south as Sydney. Needs well-composted soil and ample moisture.
