Hodgson, Margaret (fl. 1960s)
From the dust-jacket of the 1986 printing of Field Guide to Australian Wildflowers:
"MARGARET HODGSON was born and educated at Thornton, New South Wales.
On leaving school she studied commercial art and
gained diplomas in this subject and in show-card and ticket writing.
She became a senior Graphic
Artist at NBN Channel 3, Newcastle, New
South Wales, and part time art teacher at
Maitland Technical College.
Her principal
interests are painting and the study of Aboriginal art.
She exhibited paintings in several Hunter Valley art exhibitions and shared
an exhibition with Freda Cochoran, the New
South Wales artist.
During her work on painting the wildflowers for this book she joined a
scientific expedition connected with Armidale
University and travelled into Sturt's Stony
Desert and the Simpson Desert, and after that
travelled through Australia for two years in
search of wildflower specimens.
She then became a freelance artist working
with her husband, Roland Paine, in the Interpretations for the Northern Region of the
National Parks and Wildlife Service, New South
Wales."
An example of her simple botanical illustration style is shown on the right.
